Yued Land and Sea Management Program
Over the next five years, the Yued Aboriginal Corporation will become the responsible land manager for over 450 land parcels on Yued Boodja totalling over 35,000 heartcares in size. These land parcels range from cleared quarter acre blocks in Townsites all the way through to 18,000 hectare lots of uncleared bushland.
These land parcels are currently Unallocated Crown Land (UCL) and Unmanaged Reserves (UMR) and have been heavily degraded through decades of neglect and mismanagement, but as these land parcels return to Yued management via the Noongar Boodja Trust, the job of healing Boodja can begin.
In order for the Yued Aboriginal Corporation to develop the land and sea management capabilities it needs, and to build the land and sea management workforce of Yued people it needs to responsibly manage Yued Boodja, the Corporation has developed a comprehensive nationally accredited training package that will train and qualify Yued people across three nationally recognised learning pathway qualifications:
Conservation and Ecosystem Management;
Agriculture (Organic Production); and / or
Nursery Operations (Nursery Production).
The Yued Aboriginal Corporation begins this task with a simple belief:
“Every Yued person who wants to work on Country, caring for Country, should have access to education, paid on-Country training, and a secure pathway into meaningful employment that heals the lands and waters of Yued Boodja.”
The challenge ahead of the Yued Aboriginal Corporation is to find the funding, the resources, and the training and research partners to turn this belief into a lived reality for Yued People on Yued Boodja.
