Heritage protection agreement with BLT Energy

Heritage protection is the shared goal for BLT Energy and Yued Aboriginal Corporation.

Engagement with Yued Aboriginal Corporation to protect Yued cultural heritage is increasingly recognised as business as usual in Yued Boodja.

BLT Energy understands that its proposed Red Gully BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) project near Regan’s Ford must be built in a way that avoids affecting Yued cultural heritage to the greatest extent possible.

To undertake development that is going to alter the landscape, developers must first appreciate the cultural significance of that landscape.

The Yued Heritage Protection Agreement (YHPA) establishes the processes by which consideration is given to activities planned by project proponents.

Under a YHPA, proponents submit their planned Activity Notice which is considered by YAC’s Cultural Advice Committee (CAC). The CAC then provides advice to YAC’s management team on how to best ensure that cultural heritage is identified and protected.

“We welcome this agreement, the latest in our ongoing mission to protect and promote Yued cultural heritage in this land.

“BLT Energy has made a commitment to work with Yued to learn from them about their land and culture. It’s another new chapter in this ancient story.”

Comments attributable to Francis Ip, Founder and CEO, BLT Energy

“We believe the signing of the YHPA is the beginning of our relationship with the Yued people.

“The majority of our founding team grew up in Perth, and we have set it as a mission for us to develop our renewable projects in a respectful manner, by carefully considering the impact they may have to local people and their culture.

“We look forward to working with the team at YAC to ensure we minimise and properly address any potential cultural heritage impact as we continue our development process for the Red Gully BESS.”
