Media statement

  • Yued’s Chief Executive Officer Raymond de Silva will finish in February

  • Laurence Riley will be the interim CEO for 12 months

Yued Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) CEO Raymond de Silva is stepping down from the role.

Throughout his tenure, Raymond has been diligent in advocating for the Yued community, ensuring the corporation moved in a positive direction of growth and stability during our early stages of establishment. We wish Raymond well in his future endeavours.

We are pleased to announce Mr Laurence Riley as our new YAC interim CEO. Laurence will take on this role for 12 months, while on secondment from the Ombudsman’s office. A recruitment process will be conducted later this year to permanently fill the role.

Laurence is a Noongar man with considerable knowledge of the Settlement framework and its history. He has a passion for social justice, equity, and the provision of better access to services through activity-based outcomes. He is a strong advocate for Aboriginal people, constantly striving to bring positive change and growth in the community.

As the current Assistant Ombudsman, Aboriginal Engagement and Collaboration, Laurence is the first Aboriginal person in the 50-year history of the office of the Western Australian Ombudsman to hold a position as a Corporate Executive member. He has spent nearly 25 years working in the Government and non-Government sectors in the areas of education, health, social and emotional well-being, mental health, justice, housing, employment services, and corrective services. His qualifications include a Diploma of Government, Diploma of Business, Diploma of Management, and a Diploma of Nursing.

Yued Chair Gail Beck said “Raymond de Silva has been a great ally for our Noongar Nation. Never complacent with the status quo, Raymond always pushed for fairer and more equitable outcomes for the Yued community, and we are grateful for his dedication to our people.”

“Laurence Riley brings a wealth of enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience, and we are delighted for him to join the Yued team. We look forward to working with Laurence on our continued focus to support and empower our community.”
