Yued AC takes on Mogumber reserve farmland

Nearly five yeas after the registration of Yued Aboriginal Corporation, Yued Nyoongar people are today celebrating acquiring leasehold rights over reserve land held by the Aboriginal Lands Trust.

The lease will be signed by Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Hon. Don Punch MLA, and Yued Aboriginal Corporation Chairperson Sharna Meinertz at a ceremony at Mogumber Reserve at 9am on 4 August 2026.

The lease covering approximately 4,200ha is predominately bushland but includes 2,000ha of viable farmland.

The former Moore River Native Settlement (later Mogumber Mission) and two burial grounds are not included in the lease area.

Yued Aboriginal Corporation will appoint a committee of Yued Nyoongar members and experts to develop a comprehensive plan for the property. Expressions of interest will be sought and appointments made by the Yued Aboriginal Corporation board.

While that plan is developed, the property will be offered for sublease to suitably experienced agricultural interests with a focus on regenerative farming practices.
